Stolen

Stolen is a project that investigated the commodified nature of works of art within the museum. Three
famous works of art from three museums in New York City were meticulously recreated and then placed in
front of, or near the museum within which they are actually housed. In most cases the artwork was
eventually taken. The participant/thief was then approached and asked a series of questions concerning
their encounter with this famous piece of as well as what they plan to do with it. In one case the fake was
taken back to and inspected by the museum.
